But Dixie won’t die.
The South’s spirit, their will to keep on fighting appears to be superhuman. Robert E. Lee has fought a brilliant series of battles against General Grant. Grant keeps throwing his troops at the rebel defenses like a fireman throwing buckets of water at a burning building. And the flames crackle and consume. Northern boys are dieing by the thousands. The North is angry… at President Lincoln!
This election of 1864 will be the most interesting in our history. It looks like Lincoln might lose! General George McClellan is running against him, and McClellan has promised to end this terrible war by making peace with the South… allowing them to become their own country. Lincoln will never allow that. He says, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Lincoln will NOT get rid of Grant… he likes his fighting spirit.
Only one thing might help Lincoln win the election and continue the war. Atlanta . General William Tecumseh Sherman has turned Georgia into a burning hell. He devastates everything in his path – TOTAL WAR he calls it. Sherman believes the only way to break the South’s spirit is to make them hate war. He has captured Atlanta , the heart and soul of the South’s railroads.
You in the North, will you vote for Lincoln ?
You in the South, will you continue to fight?
The North has manpower, but it matters not the size of the fight, but rather the size of the fight within the man. This is why the South has not given up. This is why we continue to stand and fight after these crushing defeats. The North brings only empty promises and threatens to take our land, our workers, our beliefs.
ReplyDeleteI have ridden in rain to deliver urgent messages, I have festered in prison after being deceived by one I called friend; I will not back down. The South must fight back; the only peace the North will truly offer for us is one poisoned by hatred. Our only hope may be that Lincoln does not return to power, and I sorely hope McClellan can triumph, as much as I dislike his offer of "peace"; I find it too good to be true. All things good and kind have their jagged truths; Frankie Abel was someone I thought I could trust, a friend to lean on in rough times to come, but when push came to shove, she manipulated me and landed me in fetters and rattling chains. Know this of the North; all kindness offered will have a heavy price.
Mayhap too heavy for the South to pay...
This war is a blood bath, a massacre, and a disgrace to our nation. But it must be fought, because as President Lincoln insists, "a house divided against itself cannot stand." The Union is waging total war against the South, and mayhap this will finally wear them down to rags and tears. No one predicted the South fighting so hard and bravely against the ominous Union, but still no one is crazed enough to think the South had a chance winning this war. The Union has more soldiers, resources, economy, and railroads, while us residents of the South are starving, barely clothed, and beaten by the Union blockade. I urge my North to not give up on the union of this divided country, to refrain from voting for McClellan, who will give up on our country. Lincoln is who we can trust to unify our grand nation, who can free the slaves, and who can rescue even the Southern citizens from this war with kindness and compassion. I am still helping the Union in any way I can, sending my "slaves" up North to do my business, which is not what most assume it is. I hope with all my heart that this war will soon be over, that the Union will surge into Richmond and take this city from the wretched hands of the Southerners.
ReplyDeleteI will wholeheartedly vote for Lincoln. The rest of the North should too. Are you really going to vote for McClellan and waste all that we have fought for? Are you willing to throw all those lives away after we have made it soo far?Would your departed family member or friend want you vote to end the war when he died fighting for it? I have said it time and time again, I am a philanthropist. (I want to make the world a better place). Reelecting Lincoln will bring the Union together and abolish slavery in this bright nation for good. That is the boss option. As the "angel of the battlefield", I will do everything I can to win this war. To help after the war, I plan to find thousands of missing soldiers by creating the Office of Correspondence with the Friends of the Missing Persons. The North's sheer numbers will overrun the South in no time.

If I were still alive I would say, as being apart of the North I will still vote for Lincoln. If McClellan is voted president he promises to let the South be its own country, and now what point is that. Many and I mean many people have died in this war, and for what nothing! We are fighting to end slavery and bring the Union back together. For this to happen violence has to happen, we have to go to war. We are fighting to end slavery and bring the Union back to whole, not to throw away all of what we have accomplished and start over from the beginning. Other Northerns should stand up, and still vote for Lincoln who is trying to bring this country back to one and end slavery in the South. #VoteforLincoln
ReplyDeleteMy chances of winning the election to zero when Sherman reached Atlanta. Now, i believe I will be reelected. The only way we can win this war is with "total war" as Grant calls it. Now that Sherman took Atlanta he will continue his March and destroy everything in his path. While at the same time grant heads towards Richmond right now. I believe that the war will be over very soon.
ReplyDeleteI am just doing what my superiors say. I kill for revenge not for the confederate. Honestly, the war is starting to take a toll on my town. People are dying right and left. Almost every family I know has a family member dead from the war. I believe the South should just surrender and become United again. The people in. The confederates are starving and we have no new supplies coming in from the trade. The clothes we have are just rags. The union is slowly choking us. I don't want anymore death.
ReplyDeleteYou are starving and living in rags? Every family in the South has lost someone just like slaves' families are wrenched apart, as one family member is sold to another owner like dogs. Maybe that is good then. Perhaps you Southerners can better relate to what slavery is like now. You don't want death anymore? We don't want slavery anymore. It is time to abolish slavery and make this great country the United States of America once again by voting for Lincoln.

DeleteClara, you act as if the North has not lost anyone, as if you can act higher and mightier than the South for succumbing to the Anaconda's stranglehold. How many families have YOU seen ripped apart? How many people have you seen maimed and with no hope for the future? As a nurse, surely YOU would know. Would the North have held out this long? I doubt it; your people are ones who live with consciences settled by meager salaries and pitiful pennies. The North is no better; your paid servants are merely slaves wrapped in a prettier packaging and shipped to citizens with wool wrapped 'round their heads.
DeleteMaybe the war must end, but the North has no right to lord over their victory. As Abraham Lincoln has said in one of his many speeches, this war has not been about abolition; no, for the North, it is about preserving the Union. But if Northerners act like such uptight hypocrites and justify their cause with a belief that their own PRESIDENT does not reinforce, then perhaps there is no Union to preserve! After all, the North is simply using slavery as a crutch to excuse their acts of bloodshed and horrific crimes at war!

DeleteYou say you don't want anymore death yet you kill for revenge. I agree with what you said, the south should surrender and become United again. Yet, you continue to attack members of the Union. People on the confederate side do not have the willpower to fight nor do they have enough supplies. Your clothes are in rags which is exactly what you southerners give slaves to wear. It is about time your kind of people feel what you made slaves live with for more than a century. You have no reason to fight, which you say yourself, yet you continue to kill Union soldiers. Welcome to the life of a traitor.
DeleteI'm done with war. I've been in a Dixie prison for months. I escaped but I have no desire to keep fighting. I will stay behind in the Union to help Lincoln. Lincoln must win reelection or there will be no more USA. It will always be North and South, Union and Confederate, Yankees and Rebels. We need to defeat the South. And the only one who can do that is Lincoln
ReplyDeleteI would vote for Lincoln, if I had a vote. All the blood spilled, all the money spent, all of the destruction would be for nothing if Lincoln is not elected. The North has a clear path to victory. All the south can do Is count the days till the raise the white flag. With the capture of Atlanta, I believe that people will see the obvious choice in Mr Lincoln as president. We have come to far in this war to just stop believing in the Union and the constitution. To all, have faith in Abraham Lincoln and in America to grind out the last days in the war and rejoice when the north pulls through.
ReplyDeleteNortherners, I urge you to vote for McClellan. What Lincoln says as a ‘house divided’ simply does not make sense. Since we have seceded from the Union, we are no longer the same nation, rather two separate nations on one land. Aren’t you tired, northerners? This war has brought you nothing but trouble, trouble that could have been prevented if you have only just left us alone. Voting for McClellan will make peace on both sides, it shall end the war on good terms. Perhaps we can soon resume our norm of trading and buying. However, if the war must continue, so be it! Yes, we may be starving, we may have less supplies, and less food, but our fighting spirit shall prevail.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely vote for Lincoln, he is a strong man willing to fight for what is right. With Atlanta burning the southerners will finally see that this war is a lost cause. We fought the American Revolution so that we could be our own nation and govern ourselves, not be split in half and have each half hate the other. This war needs to end now and I believe that Lincoln will always have what is right in his mind and will come out of this war victorious.

ReplyDeleteI, as a woman, cannot vote, but I will urge men to vote for President Abraham Lincoln. We have already gotten so far and lost so many; what good would it do to give up now? Even if I do not support war, I have thus far supported the North wholeheartedly, and will continue to do so. For the North to win, I will support Abraham Lincoln. He is very determined and the only one that can lead the North to victory.
ReplyDeleteI believe all this war was started by the North. If the North allowed us to secede war would have never broken out. The North should worry more about its nation then the Souths. McClennan would be a better president than Abe Lincoln. At least McClennan wouldn't kill hundreds of thousands of men trying to stop the South seceding (which it has every right too). A divided house would work if no men died from war. Look what you have done Unionist!

ReplyDeleteThe south has a strong spirit, generals, and many advantages against the north. But, this all goes back to the main question, What are you fighting for? This pulls us back to the starting of the war, when the manpower or spirit doesn't matter. And as I said many times before, the south is fighting for a land where you are allowed to OWN human beings and be racist and discriminate as much as you want. Do you even hear yourself saying this? Lincoln is leading us into a bloody clash of good men turned into monsters. The south will fall and the Union will triumph because in a battle of good versus evil, God always sides on the good. And good definitely does not mean the right to treat a human being as a low life animal!

ReplyDeleteI greatly urge the North to vote for Lincoln. Any states who secede obviously do not belong in the UNITED States of America. Lincoln knows what he is doing. In the heart of a war, he is our best bet. Only when the last soldier takes his dying breath and the Mississippi runs red with the blood of Americans will the South realize that all this fighting is for naught. On the battlefield, we are all men. We all spill the same blood. The quicker this war ends, the less men we must lose. You must come to your senses! Killing will only cause more grief! God be with us...

My campaign across the South has been incredibly successful. My troops and I have carried out General Grant's orders to destroy everything and have been successful in defeating Generals Johnston and Hood. I did not order the burning of Atlanta, only the munitions and the military and government buildings. The troops had too much to drink and began burning everything. I do regret this, but there is nothing I can do about it now, and I believe that it may hasten the end of the war. I also believe we will be able to reach the end of the campaign very soon.

The war is overwhelming. My troops and I continue to struggle in the East. I have fought many great battles in my life and I have recently discovered, this is by far the hardest. Lincoln understandably likes General Grant, his spirit and will has done him and Lincoln good. But for us folks in the South, he is holding us back from victory. Although I will not and do not fight with the U.S. Army, I feel that the South will continue to fight for as long as it takes for them to be victorious.
ReplyDeleteI am still not exactly sure what to think of Lincoln. He said that saving the Union was his priority, at the time i didn't fully understand because obviously my priority is the abolition of slavery. Now that i have put myself in his position i understand his priorities.I hate seeing others suffer, since i did most of my life. when i heard about the Southern troops suffrage, it made me very disturbed, but again the southerners suffering gives the Union more of a chance for winning.
ReplyDeleteI hope the people of the North finally will be able to see that Mr. President Abe Lincoln should not hold office any longer. He has been a dissapontment to the one great country (now unjust and broken country) America. We here in the confederacy have lots of fire and sprit and I believe in my boys fighting on the front.
ReplyDeleteThe South should surrender. Both sides know that the north will win the war. We have more man power as well as equiptment that enavles us to win. Atlanta is burning and that is a signal to tthe south we are winnng. We are winning now, and we will be winning in the end. The confederacy has put up a fair fight but it wont be enough to resist our union forces.
ReplyDeleteI pray for President Lincoln's reelection. I hunger, like everyone else, for the end of the war, however I do not have any warm feelings toward South. The Southern soldiers have only gone through the motions of respect to mock us.
I fear for the inhabitants of Atlanta. I understand the necessity of this event so that the war may finally meet an end, but does the army understand the thousands that will leave this life twisting in agony the flames?
The south is finally running low on recorces thanks to our anaconda plan. We must keep attacking and pumble the south into the ground! Also we need to re-elect Lincoln. He is very wise and knows what is best. Splitting our country in halve is a horrordus plan.
ReplyDeleteThe north needs to vote for Lincoln, like he says, "A house divided against itself cannot stand," if McClellan is elected he will just let the south be it's own country. If the south is it's own country the house is divided and there will still be conflict between the North and South. Lincoln will not let the house divide if he elected. Though the north is dying by the thousands and we're angry at Lincoln there's still hope to make things work. We can make the South hate war. General William Tecumseh Sherman has captured Atlanta which is the "spirit" of the South's railroads. We can stop their trade and make them hate war. The north will have great victory. Let God lead us to victory.
ReplyDeleteThis is bad we need a strong leader to lead us through these hard times that's why we should vote for Abraham Lincoln to be reelected he has the right idea and can keep this crazy country together through thick and thin Lincoln is the hero we've been waiting for.
ReplyDeleteLincoln MUST be reelected! After hundreds of thousands of deaths to our friends and family in the north, we can't give up now. The soldiers who died fighting for the union deserve for us to keep fighting, to never give up! We will only win this war if it's under President Lincoln and General Grant. The south will pay for its mistake to fight us, and it's slavery will be abolished forever!
ReplyDeleteDespite the south's willpower that has motivated them to have survived this far in this war, the north has the advantage. The south has a strong leader-General Robert E. Lee, but the north is, if not more, just as strong with President Lincoln and General Grant. As for the election of 1864, I do hope that Lincoln will be reelected. As I have said before, he is a good, wise man and he has the right goal set in his mind-the abolishment of slavery. His opponent, General McClellan's solution to this war is to make peace and allow the south to be a separate country. And what does this solve? Enemies living in the same land? No rules against slavery in the south? If this is the case, our country, our once bonded union will be torn apart even more.
