FORT SUMTER
at CHARLESTOWN,S.C. It is done. It has come.
War is ripping our beloved country into two seething halves of anger,
suspicion, and violence. On the morning
of April 12th, General P.T. Beauregard’s batteries opened fire on
the Federal troops stationed inside the main fort guarding the entrance to Charleston’s lifeblood –
her harbor. Why? President Lincoln would not back down and withdraw the
troops from the harbor; instead, he decided to resupply them. South
Carolina could not live with “enemy” troops pointed
like a dagger at her throat. The cannons
roared, calling a country to battle.
Every American must decide.
Secessionist or Unionist? Slaver
or Abolitionist? Federal or
Confederate? True Blue or Proud Gray? Who will you fight for? Cry for?
Bleed for? As for this paper, we
will never cease to do all that is within our power to preserve the integrity
of one of the greatest nations on earth.
With some reluctance, but with eternal resolve, we support President
Lincoln’s decision to call for volunteers to join the Federal army, and to
FORCIBLY return the miscreant southern prodigals to the UNITED States of America. UNION
FOREVER!
I believe war is the only answer to the secession of southern states. Seeing them fire on fort Sumter, we will fire back. The north must win this war so the United states of America can remain united. I would not have fought a war over slavery, but I will fight a war to keep our precious country together!
ReplyDeleteThe south has made their choice. They were asking for war when they seceded from the union. I will fight and defend my country at all costs. Abraham Lincoln is someone I will support, since he showed his allegiance to keeping the union strong and together. America is too great a country to be split in half. Like I mentioned before, I am prepared to fight and die to keep America as one great country.
ReplyDeleteThe south does not have the right to leave. The country is united in 1 and they should not be able to leave if they want too. If war is what is needed to stop them, then let there be war. (I think that the south should be able to leave if they want to. This is a free country so they have the right to leave.)
ReplyDeleteHow does the South have no right to leave? There is nothing in the Constitution about secession. If we have the wish to leave, then let us be. The North has been nothing but prejudiced towards our way of life and while we were tolerant in the beginning, the North's heckling has become disruptive and negative. When slave catchers make efforts to track down runaways, the North moans that, oh, the slaves should be free forever. Yet even for us, freedom is not forever. The Constitution guarantees religious freedom, yet the Mormons were not spared from persecution and abuse. The Constitution also grants freedom of speech and petition, yet our presidents have tried to wrest that freedom from us through various acts, such as the Gag Rule, and further back, the Alien and Sedition Acts. Such is the hypocrisy of our nation; we call ourselves land of the free, the empire of liberty, yet even our fine citizens are yet to be completely free, always in danger of the suffocating government dominated by free states.
DeleteA Secessionist I am, but I am no slaver. Confederate I stand, and blue as my color. I will fight for my family, for the sake of my brother and father. I will cry out for those whose voices are silenced by the volleys of bullets and bleed for the cause of the South.
ReplyDeleteCall us miscreants, insurgents, rebels... make what you will of us. Yet the balance of the government has been tipped, all in favor for the North. Do you think that the South would stand for such unfairness? NO! As smaller nations, there could be more harmony as the North can keep its beliefs to itself and the South would continue to prosper with the help of cash crops. The North can leave us in peace and allow us to continue on in our ways of slavery. And good riddance too, those upjumped scuttlebutts who believe that they could change the traditions of many generations.
War may be the only solution out of this mess, as the uptight North decides that the South must be dealt with on a matter of lifestyle. My heart is heavy, and I dread the death and destruction, but if there is war...
So be it.
The south does not have the right to leave. Our nation should be together as one and I will fight for that. I will follow president Lincoln's decisions and will fight for our country. I will also fight as an abolitionist. Slavery needs and will be stopped. We need to stay as one country if we want our nation to stay together. We are to great to get split into two.
ReplyDeleteI have 4 brothers and sisters all at least 10 years older than me. My father, a soldier, used to retell battles against Indians. I will fight for the Union. Fighting to abolish slavery is only right. I may not be able to fight in the front lines as I am a woman, but I've got game. Growing up a tomboy with older brothers has toughened me up. I will bravely treat soldier, both Northerners and Southerners. Although the South is the enemy, leaving one to rot in pain is not moral. I am ready for this war.

"Abolition—Yes! abolish everything on the face of the earth but this Union; free every slave—slay every traitor—burn every rebel mansion, if these things be necessary to preserve this temple of freedom to the world and to our posterity." We need to do everything we can to keep this country United, and if that means Civil war to get there, then we must do whatever it takes!
ReplyDeleteMy husband's alliance is with the Federal Army, and my heart goes with him and his own.
ReplyDeleteIt is curious to me that the Southern love of slavery and money has outweighed their familial love. Do they not understand the young lifeblood that will water the fields they try to desperately to reap from? Have they no inkling of the families that will be torn apart no matter what cardinal point they hail from?
I trust in God for the safety of my family, as one heads into the midst of flying shells, and that of my baby. I pray that the war's violent storms will not destroy my home.
The South seceding is a shame. I am a sorrowful spectator to the downfall of my beautiful country, and now the Union must do everything we can to repair our split country. I will help the Union prisoners in Richmond when this war gets that far, no doubt it will, as my position as a Unionist in Virginia will no doubt be helpful to my country. Although slavery is what has divided this country to begin with, we are now divided as Federalists and Confederates, and we must fight the seceding South to keep our nation together and rid of slaves. We will find a way to win this war against the South slavers, who make property of people and are no longer Patriots.
ReplyDeleteI stand as a Secessionist, a Confederate, and for slavery. Our actions, are the only way to defend ourselves from northern hostility towards our southern virtues and ways of life.
ReplyDeleteNo, we do not only defend slavery, we also defend our state rights! Our life, and our slaves! They, the slaves, do not need to be subjected to the materialistic views of the North. We are simply protecting their child-like innocence, and maintaining good social order.
And why, why shouldn't the South secede? From the ways that the North have been treating us, it is no wonder that we've seceded. The north with their materialistic and selfish aggrandizement, are merely envious of our Southern gentry, that is the natural superior. The Unionist should stop fussing with us, and skedaddle along somewhere else.
But if war the necessary step to begin a new era for the South, then it is what it is.
War. Our divided nation has finally come to it's last and final resort. Blood will be spilled on American soil as a sacrifice for a better, equal, and stronger nation. This civil war will be the clean slate for the country, wiping out all the discrimination, hate, and evil. Do you think that the Union would give up that easy? No. I remember when this nation was born when Britain discriminated and looked down upon us for what we believed in, so we traveled to America for a land of the free and the home of the brave. Now, 200 years later, we are reenacting the same monsters we ran away from. In the end, I will stick with my beliefs and fight for the Union, siding with our President.

Although I am an active, long-standing abolitionist, I do not believe that our problem will be solved with a war. War will only increase the gap between the North and the South, not cure it. Both abolitionists and pro-slavery citizens are adamant in their beliefs about slavery. I believe that the best solution is through diplomacy, with no violence from either side. A war can only determine which side is more powerful through their military forces, instead of choosing the morally correct solution. A civil war will also cost many lives and resources, as well as leaving us weaker and destabilized afterwards.
ReplyDeleteI will not fight in this war! I will not fight for the Confederates, for I believe too strongly in the Union way, but I will not fight for the Union because my home is in the South. I only hope I can stay this way through out the war. With armies moving from city to city I know it is only a matter of time before I will have to choose. But until then I am neutral, neither for the North or the South.
ReplyDeleteAs a Southerner, I will fight. I will fight for the South and if seceeding is our only option for anti-abolition, then secede we will. Civil war will inhabit our country. Communities will separate, families will flee. Life as we know it, will be scattered with inhumane violence. War is certainly not my first choice, but if we must got to battle, we will. I will fight and lead the South to battle when and if we need.
ReplyDeleteI am nuetral for the war. I live in the south, but I don't care for the war. The only reason I get involved is when my sons are killed by the union. I become a sharpshooter, one of the best actually. Also, I killed over 100 Union soldiers including some officers. The only war was a nonsense to me, but my sons were not.
ReplyDeleteHow can you be neutral in the war if you've already killed over 100 Union soldiers! You need to get over the fact that you're sons died, many families have lost even more than just two sons! The reason you lost you're sons is because you're fighting for the wrong side. If you want to get revenge, then show your sons that they died for something, and switch to the Union so you can win this war! Stay on the Conferederates and die, or join the Union and win this waaaarrrr!
DeleteThis is an outrage! I will not stand for these Southern upstarts attacking our country. America was founded on the basis of being FREE, something that the "Confederate States of America" do not believe in. I am immediately rejoining the Union army. I cannot believe that the South would dare attack us, after the North helped found the country. We have done nothing extreme, and yet they choose to start a war with us. The only difference between us is that the North doesn't believe in an unjust cause.
ReplyDeleteTo the people loyal to the Union, you feel it is not only your responsibility to make decisions for yourself, but decisions for others as well. Such as the South in our decision to secede, you are willing to fight us literally to the death so that we rejoin the Union you so strongly believe in. All America has done for 10 years is argue over wether slave states vs non slave states should be admitted into the union. The confederacy knows what we want and are striving to reach excellence in a time of war. To the North, watch out. The men of the South are willing to fight and fight we will.
ReplyDeleteWe got this war in the bag! We have a very large army and a strong will all under a very smart leader as well as Abraham Lincoln who's a natural born leader. The south is going down!!! They have like half as many people as U.S. And all of their slaves are gonna come fight for us because who doesn't love freedom?
ReplyDeleteThe North will win this war. The South could have better generals but we have a bigger army and more money. Slaves will be freed and all will be well. As a highly educated person I think that the slaves are to be educated.
ReplyDeleteIf we were to unite as a nation it would benefit everyone is some way. We fight against each other even though in the end we are one country. We aren't all going to agree on everything but fighting wont solve the problems. A union victory is just what we need for the abolition of slavery. We can all work together and everyone can contribute their skills to help our country stay together.

ReplyDeleteIf I were still alive today I would say. Finally this is what I have been waiting for. As an abolitionist who would fight for the Union this calling from Abraham Lincoln is right, every man should stand up and fight to end slavery and unite the country as one as a free-slave country. The only way is to come together and fight just like are president wants us to do.
ReplyDeleteIf the South wants to secede, then let them secede. Restricting their constitutional right is inhumane. War is called and the South needs to fight for what's right. I will lead the South to victory and once we win, there will be changes. The South is about freedom (except for non-people of course), justice, and farming. All the North believes in is factories and technology. If the U.S must have war to resolve this conflict the let there be war.

ReplyDeleteI will fight for the union to abolish slavery. This war will not end quietly. We will fight a bloody battle. Both sides will go to great extents to win this war.
ReplyDeleteWar. War is our only option. Our countries seperate beliefs have become so extreme that war is necasarry. For soldiers on both sides, killing neighbors and fellow citizens is just a part of daily life. The souths motivation is just wrong. Do you really need slaves to do everything for you. hat about if theyneed something done for them? Who will do that for them? Slavery is wrong; and if slavery is the only thing the South stands for, then the South is wrong too. War is the only way to prove to the rest of our country slavery and the south are wrong. War is our answer.
ReplyDeleteWar is not the answer. Peace is the answer. Our nation is One, we need to compromise. "One and God make a majority." If we work together as a whole, God will lead the way. I will refuse to fight or undertake in this war. I will assist the Union but refuse to fight even though I believe the war is wrong. God is the answer to all of our problems and he will guide us. Violence is not the answer.
ReplyDeleteI shall not stand with the South and their reckless behavior. Secession does not solve any problems. Instead we will dive headlong into a war because all it takes is a spark to create an inferno. Slavery is unjust. If the South threatens to split our nation apart because they believe treating humans as animals is acceptable, so be it. Any American who believes this is right is no ally of mine. I truly hope that they come to their right minds and stop this sniveling nonsense.

I will gladly and undeniably support the Union and President Lincoln. I will fight for this country and the equality of its people even if it means war. Of course I believe that peace is the ideal option, but a compromise has not brought our country together, instead it has lead to the secession and our broken so called "Union". As a conductor of the Underground Railroad, I am not unfamiliar with risking my life for what I believe is right and in this case, in a war that could free millions, I will gladly fight with the Unionists and the abolitionists.
